Description of Gravure Rolls
Gravure roll is a cylindrical printing or coating tool with a surface engraved with cells that hold ink or coating. It is used in gravure printing and coating processes, where the cells are filled with a ink/coating liquid, excess ink/liquid is wiped off, and the ink/liquid is then transferred to a substrate.
Gravure roll is precision coating tools that adopt ceramic coating technology. They are mainly applied in fields such as batteries and optical films, featuring high wear resistance and precise measurement characteristics.
How Gravure Rolls Work
Engraved cells: Gravure roll surface has a pattern of recessed cells of varying depths and widths, which determines the amount of ink or coating transferred to the substrate.
Printing: In gravure printing, after the gravure roll surface is flooded with ink, a doctor blade scrapes the excess ink off the surface, leaving ink only in the recessed cells. The ink is then transferred to the substrate.
Coating: In gravure coating, the gravure roll can be partially submerged in a coating solution, with the cells picking up the liquid. A doctor blade can smooth the surface, and the precisely measured coating is then transferred to the web.
